Tappan Zee Bridge Costs and Timelines by Ken Mahoney

LEGISLATORS HAVE DOUBTS OVER NEW TZ BRIDGE COST/TIMELINE

There’s skepticism within Rockland’s state legislative delegation regarding the cost and construction timeline for a new Tappan Zee Bridge. The state’s Department of Transportation recently announced the dismissal of options for a renovated span in favor of an entirely new bridge with new footprints in Nyack and Tarrytown about 500 feet north of the existing structure. While the D.O.T. hopes to have the new bridge in place in ten years, legislators say a timeline is virtually impossible to set without first getting public or private funding commitments. A new bridge with bus rapid transit and a commuter rail would run about $16 billion.
